Antique 800 Silver Powder Compact Engraved Art Deco Vanity Mirror c. 1920s For Sale

A beautifully preserved early 20th-century powder compact crafted in .800 silver, richly decorated with intricate engine turning and hand-engraved floral and foliate ornament.The compact’s shaped square form is particularly lovely, with softly scalloped edges and lobed corners framing an exceptionally detailed face. Fine undulating engine-turned lines fill the central field, surrounded by scrolling foliage and dimensional flowers accented with delicate crosshatched engraving. The reverse offers a quieter contrast with crisp linear engine turning.Opening the compact reveals its period vanity fittings, including the original-style mirror, fitted powder sifter and soft fabric powder puff. The survival of these interior components gives the piece wonderful completeness and offers a glimpse into the ritual of a fashionable dressing table nearly a century ago.The clasp tab is stamped 800, indicating silver of .800 fineness.
