A truly magnificent, rare find for collectors of early British ceramics. This is an authentic antique 19th-century oval serving dish / deep platter manufactured by the historic Wedgwood factory in Staffordshire, England. This piece dates precisely to the Victorian era (circa 1840s - 1850s).
Housed on a crisp white Pearlware clay body, the piece is decorated in the highly desirable \"Chinese Basket\" pattern. It features an exquisite, vibrant polychrome transfer design highlighting a grand Chinoiserie floral basket overflowing with hand-painted lotus blossoms, peonies, and wild green foliage. The elegant scalloped rim is framed by a beautifully rich, geometric rust-orange brocade border.
Underside Markings:
• Authentic impressed all-caps \"WEDGWOOD\" serif factory stamp (Pre-1860, pre-England marking)
• Hand-painted pattern tracking reference: \"No. 1237\" in red glaze paint
• Incised potter\'s cross tally mark
A magnificent historical center display piece for an antique china collection, a hutch display, or a curated traditional cottagecore tablescape.
Condition: Good antique condition! No structural chips, cracks, or repairs. The hand-painted enamel elements and colors remain bright and clear. The glazed surface shows light, honest craquelure/crazing, minor manufacturing kiln stilt pin pricks on the back, and gentle surface scuffs consistent with a 170+ year old piece of fine pottery.
