American Hop Ale Bottle, Anheuser Busch Brg. Assn. St. Louis MO. Pre-Prohibition: $125.00
This vintage Anheuser-Busch "American Hop Ale" label was produced between 1895 and 1919. Anheuser-Busch officially launched "American Hop Ale" around 1895 as a specialized non-intoxicating beverage. It was explicitly formulated to address the rising temperance movement by marketing a refreshing, hop-flavored product that was entirely alcohol-free or "Absolutely Non-Intoxicating". Production of this specific pre-Prohibition line ceased 1919 when national Prohibition went into effect, giving way to newer wartime or alternative formulas (such as Bevo). This antique aqua glass Anheuser-Busch beer bottle was produced during the Pre-Prohibition era, specifically between 1905 and 1917. Key characteristics of this specific bottle style include the embossing which features the arched "ANHEUSER-BUSCH" text above the company's iconic A-and-Eagle logo. The light aqua green color, long neck, and crown top finish are characteristic of machine-made or late blown-mold beer bottles from the early 1910s.
