ALMOST FINISHED MID 19TH CENTURY DUTCH? MOTIF SAMPLER INITIALLED I.M - 1876:

Almost finished mid 19th century linen and wool work sampler initialled I.M - 1876. This sampler, possibly Dutch or German, is just delightful with fine quality stitch work throughout. The upper section of the linen is stitched with two rows of alphabet letters with the date of 1876 centrally beneath which has a floral garland below held aloft by two hovering crowned cherubs and containing I.M's initials. Both cherubs then have a man standing beside them with a different example of darning patch nearby. The middle section of the linen contains a central fruit basket with a floral spray to either side, the right side spray has a rose urn beside it whilst the linen by the left side floral spray is missing its partner. The lower section of the linen is stitched with a large central floral urn with a small floral motif and carnation bowl to the right and a small floral motif and unfinished flower bowl to the left. There are three different examples of darning patch across the bottom edge interspersed with two fruit trees, then the whole piece is surrounded by a red zigzag border.
The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age with a few small, natural slubs. The sampler is behindglass so I'm not able to see the reverse, but the coloursof the wool appear good though they are likely to have mellowed to some extent over the years. The sampler is contained within a mid/late 20th century dark wood frame with integral gilt slip. The frame is in good condition with the odd light scratch and scuff mark commensurate with its age.
Measures 12 1/2" across x 13 1/2" (sight size) and 13 3/4" x 14 3/4" including the frame.
I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO MENTION THAT I HAVE USED A RELATIVELY NEW CAMERA TO TAKE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS AND I AM STRUGGLING WITH THE COLOUR BALANCE (something I'm STILL continuing to work on!!) AS SUCH, SOME OF MY PHOTOS APPEAR SOMEWHAT DARK OR HAVE A SLIGHTLY FIERY OR YELLOWISH LOOK TO THEM WHICH IS NOT THE CASE, IT'S JUST MY INCOMPETENCE!
