Historical Information about the Regiment
The 8th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 153 was part of the army of the Executive Confederation and later the German Imperial Army. The regiment was stationed in Altenburg (the capital of the Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg) and Torgau. It has deep historical roots dating back to the Napoleonic Wars, which perfectly explains why the cover (as seen in the previous photographs) depicts a Saxon drummer from the early 19th century. The regiment took an active part in the Franco-Prussian War (1813), and after the publication of this book, it fought heroically on the Western Front of World War I.
Description of the Color Illustration
The right page depicts six figures of soldiers in various uniforms, arranged vertically. Next to each drawing is a year, reflecting the key historical eras through which the regular units of the regiment (Stammtruppen) passed: 1793 and 1795 (the two upper figures) - the era of the revolutionary wars, soldiers in the classic uniform of the late 18th century with tricorn hats. 1807 - the period of the Napoleonic Wars, when Saxony was part of the Confederation of the Rhine (the uniform of this period echoes the drummer\'s uniform on the cover). 1813 - the liberation wars against Napoleon and the Battle of Leipzig. 1861 - the mid-19th century, the transition to more practical uniforms and headdresses. 1903 (lower figure) - the ceremonial dark blue uniform (tunic) of the German Imperial Army, which existed at the time of writing. The text on the left page (page 64) describes the events of the early 19th century. The text mentions troop movements in Austria (the cities of St. Pölten and Vienna are mentioned). The arrival of Emperor Napoleon at Schönbrunn Palace, where he inspected the regiments, inspected the companies, personally communicated with the officers and non-commissioned officers, inquired about the wounded, and inspected the quality of the soldiers\' supplies and uniforms.
