Jesse C. Osgood mustered into A Co on October 18, 1861 and was mustered out on August 26, 1865, at Savannah, GA.

“...I hear that you did not get the last letter I wrote you. I think very likely it fell into the hands of the Rebels...Tell your mother that I am much obliged to her for the invitation and should like to have been there by my business was such that I could not have been there, but my business was such that I could not come. I hope that you had a pleasant evening. I hope that you had a pleasant evening. Did you stop at home Thanksgiving Day. I suppose that you had a sumptuous dinner. I had some chicken soup. I enjoyed my dinner very much...I have just finished my breakfast which was hard tack and coffee and fried fresh beef, a very good breakfast for a soldier...
“Please tell your father that I have received the boots and the gloves are rather large but guess they will shrink when they get wet...I rather dread the coming winter...We have had very quiet times here of late. There are some prisoners brought in most every day, but we have not been troubled with much fighting. I do not know when we shall go into winter quarters. Perhaps we shall have one more fight if we can get the Rebels to stand...”
