The AN/PAS-6 (also known as the "Metascope") is a historic, handheld active infrared viewing device introduced to the US military during the Vietnam War era and utilized through the late 20th century.

• Function: It is not a traditional weapon sight, but rather a passive/active infrared detector. It allowed soldiers to safely identify enemy infrared light sources (like active IR beacons or other IR spotlights) without being seen themselves.
• Design: The Metascope consists of a side-by-side tube arrangement. One tube houses the batteries and a high-voltage power supply, while the other contains the optics and an infrared converter tube.
