Vintage 1951 ELNA No. 1 “Grasshopper” Sewing Machine – Fully Working – Complete Set

For sale is a beautiful and highly collectible ELNA No. 1 “Grasshopper” sewing machine, manufactured by Tavaro S.A. in Geneva, Switzerland.

The machine is in fully working condition. The motor runs properly and the original built-in sewing light is also working.

This is a particularly nice and complete set, including the original metal carrying case which unfolds to form a large sewing table.

The machine retains its beautiful original green finish and ELNA markings. It has not been repainted or restored.

The carrying case shows normal signs of age, use and surface wear, as can be seen in the photographs. Considering that the machine is approximately 75 years old, it has survived in very attractive condition.

The ELNA No. 1 was introduced in 1940 and became famous for its innovative portable free-arm design, integrated electric motor and distinctive green finish, which later earned it the nickname “Grasshopper.”
