1950's-1960's Castello Sea Rock Briar SC 55 Carlo Scotti Italy Estate Pipe For Sale

Beautiful vintage Castello Sea Rock Briar SC 55, handmade in Cantu, Italy during the Carlo Scotti era. This is an earlier Castello carrying the desirable SC designation, predating the later K-series grading system. Based on the nomenclature and known Castello dating conventions, this example dates approximately to the late 1950s–1960s.The briar is finished in Castello's unmistakable Sea Rock treatment, with exceptionally deep, rugged carving throughout the bowl and shank. The dark finish retains attractive reddish-brown highlights that really come alive under good lighting.
The nomenclature remains unusually strong and readable for its age:
CASTELLO
SEA ROCK BRIAR
SC 55
MADE IN CANTU' / ITALY
CARLO SCOTTI oval stamp
The original-style black stem is additionally stamped:
HAND MADE
CASTELLO
5The pipe has been thoroughly cleaned inside and out. The chamber has been cleaned and inspected, the airway and mortise have been cleaned, and the stem has been cleaned and polished. The stem fits well and the pipe presents beautifully.Condition note: The stem has a small factory-cut recess where a Castello stem emblem/insert was formerly located. The insert is missing. I have intentionally left the original recess untouched rather than attempting an inaccurate replacement. Please see the close-up photographs. Otherwise, the pipe shows normal age and use consistent with a vintage estate pipe. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.A particularly attractive early Castello Sea Rock SC 55 with strong nomenclature, excellent presentation and unmistakable Carlo Scotti-era character.
