Up for sale is a beautiful piece of mid-century Ivy League history: an original Princeton University 25th Reunion Mug from the Class of 1923, manufactured for their milestone celebration in June 1948.
PROVENANCE & FAMILIAL LEGACY:This mug was discovered fresh-to-the-market at a New Jersey estate alongside an 1898 reunion stein belonging to Luther E. Price (Princeton Class of 1888 and legendary 1887 Football Captain). Archival records indicate this 1948 mug belonged to his son, William Evans Price a prominent member of Phi Beta Kappa (Princeton Class of 1923), making this a fantastic multi-generational piece of Princeton family history. (The father's 1898 stein is also available in my store at the time of this listing).
MANUFACTURER DETAILS:- Maker: Steubenville Pottery Company (Steubenville, Ohio).- Base Stamp: Features the authentic Steubenville log cabin maker's mark and the pattern/mold stamp "116".- Design: Cream-colored glaze accented with Princeton's iconic orange and black banding, featuring the "Princeton 23 / 1923-1948" central shield.
CONDITION:Excellent vintage condition! Unlike many ceramics of this age, this mug is structurally sound with NO cracks or breaks. The body retains great gloss and vibrant colors. Shows standard, minor shelf scuffing and light glaze wear along the unglazed bottom base rim from decades of display. It makes a beautiful, sturdy cabinet piece.
Perfect addition for any Princeton alumnus, Ivy League historian, or vintage American art pottery collector! Shipped with extreme care. Combined shipping is available if you purchase the companion 1898 stein from my store.
