1948 Cold War British Legation Budapest Document Soviet Allied Control Com For Sale

Up for sale is an incredibly rare, museum-quality piece of early Cold War diplomatic and postal history. This is an original passport document page fragment featuring two official Landing Permit extensions issued by the British Legation in Budapest, Hungary, during the historical flashpoint year of 1948.HISTORICAL HIGHLIGHT — SOVIET ALLIED CONTROL COMMISSION SIGN-OFF:
This document features a highly significant, faint but clearly legible circular ink handstamp from the Allied Control Commission for Hungary (Soviet Element). The Cyrillic text explicitly reads:

• Top: "СОЮЗНАЯ КОНТРОЛЬНАЯ КОМИССИЯ" (Allied Control Commission)
• Bottom: "В ВЕНГРИИ" (In Hungary)

This stamp surrounds the central star emblem and serves as definitive proof that this landing permit had to be physically submitted to, vetted by, and stamped by the occupying Soviet military administration in 1948 just as the Iron Curtain slammed shut over Budapest. It is an extraordinary example of joint British-Soviet administrative interaction at the absolute dawn of the Cold War.Additional Diplomatic & Philatelic Features:

• Two Typed Extensions: Dated 3 June 1948 and 2 November 1948, hand-signed by the active British Pro-Consul in Budapest.
• Official British Diplomatic Seals: Features clear, crisp impressions of the consular ink stamps reading "BRITISH LEGATION * BUDAPEST" featuring the Royal Coat of Arms.
• Rare Revenue Stamps: Affixed with three King George VI "Consular Service" consular fee stamps (Two x 1s green stamps and One x 2s green stamp), each individually cancelled with the legation's specific location stamp.

Condition:
Authentic vintage condition showing natural folding lines, light handling tone, and minor staining consistent with a heavily traveled 1940s passport document. The stamps, text, signatures, and embossed legacy characteristics are beautifully preserved.Sent via registered, fully insured Australia Post signature delivery to protect this rare historical item.
