RARE 1933 Kingdom of Romania — 50th Anniversary of the Inauguration of Peleș Royal Castle Commemorative Medal

Up for sale is a highly collectible and historically significant pre-WWII Romanian royal award. Instituted on August 16, 1933, by King Carol II, this medal commemorates the 50th anniversary of the completion of Peleș Castle in Sinaia, the storied summer residence of the Romanian Royal Family. This medal was an incredibly exclusive award with only about 600 pieces ever struck. It was strictly presented to members of the Royal Family, high-ranking officers of the Army High Command, the Sinaia military garrison, and distinguished knights holding top-tier bravery decorations like the Order of Michael the Brave. Due to the low mintage numbers, it remains heavily sought after by European militaria and royalty collectors.Obverse (Front): Features the beautifully detailed conjoined profile portraits of the Romanian kings: Carol I, Ferdinand I, and Carol II. It is signed by the famous Romanian sculptor Ion Jalea. It features the circular text: \"50 DE ANI DE LA INTEMEIEREA CASTELULUI PELES LA SINAIA\" flanked by the historic dates 1883 - 1933 at the base.Reverse (Back): Features an engraved patriotic excerpt from a poem by Vasile Alecsandri.Ribbon: Includes the authentic, distinctive vertically striped ribbon with black, white/silver, and gold borders. Original ribbons from this period are incredibly fragile and rarely survive in this complete state. The medal features a beautiful vintage patina with clear, sharp strikes on the portraits and text. The original suspension loop and ribbon are firmly attached. Please check the provided high-resolution photos carefully to assess the physical condition and aging for yourself before buying.
