Front:

Made payable to R. G. Brown in the amount of $4.20 ("Four dollars and 20/100")
Signed by what appears to be Chelbechisoft & Clearalay (or similar — signature partially obscured by bank stamp)
Bearing a large circular purple bank stamp dated Nov 3, 1911

Reverse:

Endorsed by R. G. Brown and J. C. Brown
Stamped endorsements from The Riggs National Bank of Washington, D.C. (Nov 3, 1911) and The First National Bank of Monrovia, MD (C. A. McBride, Cashier)
Intermediate routing stamp referencing Citizens Nat'l Bank, Frederick, MD (Wm. G. Zimmerman, Cashier)

A wonderful piece of early 20th-century Washington, D.C. banking history. The check passed through multiple regional banks on its way to clearance — a fascinating snapshot of the pre-Federal Reserve banking system. Printed by The Falconer Company, Baltimore. Good condition with expected age toning.
