Short History

This postcard captures Spokane's famous Upper and Middle Falls before many of the surrounding downtown improvements transformed the riverfront. The dramatic Spokane Falls powered the city's early mills and industries and were instrumental in Spokane's rapid growth during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The card was mailed on June 10, 1908, just one year after the divided-back postcard format became standard in the United States. Although this example retains the older undivided back style, it represents the final years of that earlier postcard era. The combination of the Spokane postmark, Franklin stamp, handwritten correspondence, and local Washington destination adds to its appeal for collectors of Spokane history, Washington postcards, and postal history.
