SKU: data-start="116" data-end="297">Original illustrated article from Frank Leslie's Popular Monthly (1876) featuring two large engravings documenting the railroad infrastructure of nineteenth-century New York City.
The first engraving depicts the impressive interior of the Grand Union Depot, serving the New York Central, Hudson River, New Haven, and Harlem Railroads on Fourth Avenue in Manhattan. Locomotives, passenger cars, and travelers fill the vast arched train shed in one of the earliest great railroad terminals of New York.
The second engraving shows the beam tunnel and open railroad cut along Fourth Avenue, illustrating the engineering works that carried railroad traffic through upper Manhattan before the development of modern Grand Central Terminal.
Together these engravings capture a fascinating period in New York City's transportation history, when steam railroads were transforming the city and connecting it to the rapidly expanding American rail network. The images offer exceptional architectural, engineering, railroad, and urban history interest.
An authentic 1876 illustrated periodical article, not a modern reproduction.
