Ohio Veteran Volunteer Medal made by Tiffany & Co. and issued in 1866, named to Adam Williams of Company C, 43rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Front depicts a soldier receiving a laurel wreath from a female allegorical figure, with the dates 1861–1865 below.
Recipient Research: An 1881 History of Knox County, Ohio, page 835, identifies Adam Williams of Company C, 43rd Ohio Infantry, as a blacksmith from Brandon, Ohio. The biography records his service as a sergeant and color-bearer, a shoulder wound at Resaca, and participation in Sherman’s campaign to Savannah. He reenlisted in January 1864 and received a second lieutenant’s commission shortly before discharge. This published account matches the name and unit engraved on the medal.
