15 Antique Glass Magic Lantern Slides Keystone Bijou GEM Milligan Photo Lot For Sale

Wonderful mixed collection of 15 antique glass photographic / magic lantern slides, assembled by owner and kept together for approximately 30 years.

This is an eclectic educational, travel, agricultural, industrial and illustrated group containing Keystone View Company slides, a C. T. Milligan Magic Lantern slide, a California citrus slide, and five long-format multi-image Bijou/GEM-style slides.

The collection is being sold exactly as found. I have not separated, cleaned, polished, repaired, opened or otherwise altered the slides. They remain in the condition in which they were stored.

These are marked Keystone View Company, Factories, Meadville, PA and include:

No. 339 (13315) — In the Narrow Streets of La Guaira, Venezuela

No. 551 (21017) — Husking Cocoanuts — Pagsanjan — Island of Luzon, P.I.

No. 539 (21470) — Cocoons of Silkworm, Japan

No. 260 (10161) — Royal School, Honolulu, Hawaii

No. 528 (14730) — Rice Planters at Work, Japan

One slide is marked:

C. T. Milligan, Magic Lantern Manuf’r.
728 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA

The subject shows men at a work table and carries the handwritten notation:

“SORTING DIAMONDS.”

One square slide shows a hanging cluster of oranges with an aged handwritten label that appears to read approximately:

“California … Cluster of Oranges.”

Some of the handwriting and numbering are difficult to read with certainty, so the photographs should be used as the final reference.

This slide is visibly cracked.

Five long glass slides are also included, each containing multiple circular images.

Among the readable labels:

The Unexcelled Bijou Slide — No. 9

1. St. Goar on the Rhine
2. Castle Ehrenfels
3. City of Cologne

Another Unexcelled Bijou Slide contains:

1. Palace of the Sultan
2. Fountain of St. Sophia
3. Mosque of Mahomet

Other long-format slides include:

• A three-scene horse-themed slide
• A second horse-themed / stable scene slide
• A dramatic illustrated/story slide with figures and winter/outdoor scenes
• A darker illustrated sequence with a cross/grave or memorial scene

Some original paper labels are incomplete, torn or difficult to decipher, so I have only identified wording that can be read with reasonable confidence.

These antique glass photographic / lantern slides are being sold exactly as found.

I have not cleaned, polished, opened, repaired, re-taped, separated, or otherwise altered them, as I do not want to risk damaging the original photographs, emulsions, labels, bindings, glass, or surfaces.

They show age-related dust, grime, discoloration, label wear, edge wear, old tape/binding deterioration, surface marks and general signs of age. There may be small chips, cracks or other deterioration not individually cataloged.

The California orange slide is visibly cracked.

The long slides also show age-related wear to their borders and labels.

Please examine all photographs carefully for condition. Sold as one collection, as-is.
