This piece utilizes an authentic U.S. M1917A1 "Kelly" pattern steel shell—the classic shallow-brim shape used by the U.S. military in the interwar period and early WWII prior to the adoption of the M1 helmet. During the war, surplus steel shells were repainted and reissued to home-front defense units.
Key Features & Details:
Shell & Finish: Heavy steel construction repainted in traditional home-front tan/khaki. Shows authentic age-appropriate finish wear, paint chips, surface patina, and scuffs from period use.
Insignia: Front features the original, authentic Office of Civilian Defense (OCD) decal set against its iconic dark blue circular background. The central white triangle and red emblem remnants remain clearly recognizable.
Liner & Suspension: Includes a remarkably complete 4-point woven canvas web harness with metal grommets and an intact canvas web chin strap with metal buckle hardware.
Condition:
Good vintage condition overall with clear signs of period age and history. The steel shell is solid with no major dents or cracks. The internal web harness and chin strap are complete and remarkably well-preserved for a WWII-era piece. Please review all high-resolution photos for exact cosmetic condition.
