DescriptionA Japanese Navy Sailor’s Uniform — 1944An original-style Imperial Japanese Navy sailor’s tunic dating to the final years of World War II.Its dark fabric, distinctive blue sailor collar, and white trim reflect the uniform worn by Japanese naval personnel during the war. What makes this particular piece especially interesting is the writing preserved inside the collar:Name: Katsumi Hirai (平井克己)Marking: 舞㞷水 一六四三七 (16437)The exact meaning of the marking and number has not been confirmed, and the personal history of Katsumi Hirai remains unknown. But unlike an anonymous uniform, this one preserves a name — a small, personal connection to someone who lived through wartime Japan.Historical SignificanceBy 1944, Japan was entering the final and increasingly difficult phase of the Pacific War.Behind the famous warships and major naval battles were countless ordinary sailors, each with a life and story of their own. This uniform offers a tangible connection to that history.Details & Condition* Imperial Japanese Navy sailor-style tunic
