DescriptionThis is an original set of eight pre-WWII / WWII-era color postcards from the Kumagaya Army Flying School, an aviation training school of the Imperial Japanese Army.The postcards are marked “Kumagaya Army Flying School” and were printed by Mitsumura.The Kumagaya Army Flying School was established in 1935 in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, as part of the Imperial Japanese Army’s aviation training system.For those new to Japanese military aviation history, this was essentially a school where young men received the education and training needed to become members of the Army’s aviation branch. The school continued through the wartime period until the end of the Imperial Japanese Army in 1945.The eight postcards provide a colorful glimpse into this now-lost military aviation school.Scenes include the school entrance and buildings, groups of aviation personnel, aircraft lined up on the airfield, individual military aircraft, formation flying, and a particularly impressive scene of aircraft flying with Mount Fuji in the background.Unlike ordinary black-and-white military photographs, these postcards were produced in color using period printing techniques, giving us a remarkably vivid view of Japanese military aviation before and during World War II.These are not modern reproductions.
