WW2 1945 Okinawa Photo Labeled Science Bldg Navy Ruin Naha Combat Snapshot OOAK

1945 WORLD WAR 2 PHOTOGRAPH — BATTLE OF OKINAWA — LABELED "SCIENCE BLDG. NAVY"

Up for sale is a rare, historically significant original wartime snapshot captured during the intense final stages of the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. This one-of-a-kind (OOAK) fiber-based silver gelatin print offers a stark, personal look at the total devastation of Okinawa's capital city, Naha.HISTORICAL DETAILS:

• Front Visual:Documents the heavily bombed, gutted, and cratered concrete-block ruins of a multi-story administrative facility. The structure features blown-out windows, shattered masonry, and surrounding fields of heavy combat rubble.
• Reverse Inscription:Features a period-correct, handwritten pencil notation explicitly reading: "SCIENCE BLDG. NAVY". This refers to the ruined remains of the Okinawa Prefectural Normal School Science Building (or a closely related government laboratory facility) located in the Naha/Shuri sector. The "NAVY" designation notes its status as a target or cataloged landmark handled by U.S. Navy Carrier Task Forces, naval bombardment, or Seabee units.
• Dimensions:3 11/16" x 3 3/4"

CONDITION REPORT: This is a genuine, 80+ year-old historical artifact. The photo shows typical age-toning on the reverse, with the eyewitness pencil inscription remaining clean and entirely legible. There is a small, honest tear/chip on the right edge that does not encroach upon the main architectural subject matter. The image retains sharp contrast and clarity.
