Vintage decorative cloth Swedish handicraft w/original i.d. tag. Bought in Sweden in the late 1940s.
This is a piece I picked up as part of an estate settlement in New Mexico. The previous owner traveled as she helped with the relief efforts in Europe just after WW2. She had an interest in sewing and hand-made fabrics and bought this on her travels there. Evidently she kept this piece in storage, unused, as it still has the original identification tag stapled in the top left corner. It is a beautiful piece, handmade in Sweden. The tag identifies it as \"Svensk hemslojd, N:o1530/20.\" Produced as part of the \"Statens Industri-Kommission\" under \"Licens Nr. EE1040C.\" The tag describes the rectangle as 35 by 60 centimeters in size. (Approximately 14 by 24 inches.) Including the tassels it is just over 35 inches wide.
The yellow stripes appear to have some degradation, perhaps moth damage. It hardly shows when the cloth is laid in place, but as I hold it to a window, see photos, you can see some openings. Still, an impressive piece of hand-made vintage cloth. Guaranteed to satisfy and delight.
