This is a scarce, vintage Western Cutlery Jumbo Folding Hunter / Camp Utility knife, proudly manufactured in Boulder, Colorado, dating back to the circa 1950s era.
This heavy-duty outdoor folder measures a substantial 5 inches closed and opens up to an impressive 9.25 inches overall. It features the classic straight-stacked \"WESTERN / BOULDER, COLO.\" tang stamp on the primary blade.
Blades & Mechanics:
• Excellent \"Walk and Talk\": This knife has been exceptionally well cared for mechanically. Both blades feature fantastic, crisp snap on opening and closing with zero lazy movement (\"great snap\").
• Blade Condition: The carbon steel blades exhibit an honest, smooth, and highly desirable dark vintage patina. There is light surface pitting/pepper spots consistent with age, but the steel remains structurally solid. It has recently been lightly treated with mineral oil to protect the steel.
Handle & Construction Details:
• Unique Character / Period Repair: This knife features an asymmetrical handle that tells a fantastic story of historical field use. One side features the gorgeous, deep-amber original jigged bone scale. The opposite side features an expertly hand-fitted and brass-pinned vintage hardwood replacement scale (likely walnut). The repair is tight, and highly functional.
• Carry Ring: Features the original factory steel lanyard bail / carry ring pinned directly through the rear bolster, firmly attached.
This is a rock-solid, highly collectible piece of American cutlery history that is ready for a display case or to be slipped right back into a vintage tackle box. Please review the photos for exact cosmetic condition.
