Vintage traditional Maasai long-bladed spear from East Africa, likely Kenya or Tanzania.
Measures approximately71 inches overalland features the characteristic three-part Maasai construction: a long forged ferrous-metal upper blade with pronounced central ridge, a short wooden central shaft/grip, and a long tapering ferrous-metal lower butt spike/counterweight.
The upper blade has a long narrow profile with a raised medial ridge and flared shoulders where it meets the wooden center. The lower iron section terminates in a pointed butt. The metal retains a dark aged surface and has not been polished or refinished.
Construction and proportions are consistent with traditional Maasai spear forms. This appears to be an older ethnographic example, likely early to mid-20th century, although exact age and provenance are unknown.
An impressive full-size example for an African ethnographic, tribal art, or historic arms collection.
