This is a stunning representation of the original Aztec Sun Stone. Originals date from the late 15th century. Often called a calendar stone, but it's much more than that! It actually represents the Aztec cosmos and their understanding of time, depicting the five sequential "suns" or eras of the world. The striking face in the center is usually identified as Tonatiuh, the sun god of the fifth and current era.
