This unique piece of ethnographic folk art depicts a traditional masked ritual dancer associated with the Makishi initiation ceremonies performed by the Luvale, Lunda, and Chokwe peoples.
The figure is built over a hand-formed structural armature, hand-painted with distinct black, white and reddish-brown geometric/tribal patterns, and detailed with a thick, textured natural fiber grass costume/skirt.
This piece is in good vintage condition with nice aging fibers and paint. This figure is well-balanced and stands entirely on its own for easy display on a shelf, desk or mantle measuring approximately 8 inches tall.
