Vintage 1960s Service Reproduction 5H Pencils NOS 36 Original Box USA For Sale

The pencils were manufactured in the United States for Service Reproduction of Indianapolis, Indiana. They are estimated to date to the 1960s, most likely the early to middle part of the decade, based on the packaging style, typography and Indianapolis labeling.

The original box is marked:

“Service Reproduction Drawing Pencils”
“½ Gross”
“5H”
“Made in U.S.A.”

The very hard 5H graphite grade was designed to retain a fine point and produce light, precise lines. These pencils were suitable for architectural plans, engineering work, technical drafting, fine guidelines and detailed artwork.

Each golden-yellow pencil is marked “SERVICE REPRODUCTION 5H.” The three dozen packs retain their colorful original red-and-blue paper sleeves reading:

“Quality Pencils — Smooth Writing — Made in U.S.A.”

“Quality Pencils” appears to be descriptive packaging language rather than the manufacturer’s name. The actual contract manufacturer is not identified.

Includes:

36 total pencils
Three original packs of 12
5H graphite grade
Unused and unsharpened
Three original vintage paper sleeves
Original 5H half-gross outer box
Made in the USA

The included outer box was originally manufactured to hold six dozen, or 72, pencils. This listing contains the three remaining 5H dozen packs, totaling 36 pencils. The box is therefore not being represented as a complete original half-gross quantity.

This is an appealing example of vintage American drafting and office-supply history, suitable for collecting, display or careful practical use.

Condition:

New old stock. All 36 pencils are unused and unsharpened.

The original outer box shows minor vintage storage wear, including minor discoloration and general aging, but is in nice, solid condition. The box originally held 72 pencils but now contains the three included packs totaling 36 pencils.
