USS Alabama BB-60 WWII Navy Photo Lot 13 Vintage 8x10 Photos + History Docs For Sale

Original group of six World War II-era black-and-white photographs documenting USS Clermont (APA-143), a Haskell-class U.S. Navy attack transport commissioned in January 1945. One photograph prominently shows the ship’s bow and hull number “143,” providing a strong internal identification for the entire related group. The remaining images show crowded decks of servicemen, landing craft, shipboard equipment and several different exterior views of Clermont during her brief wartime and immediate postwar service.

USS Clermont served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during 1945 and later transported occupation forces and returning servicemen. An official September 1945 Navy photograph also documents Clermont in Japan during the occupation period, although these particular photographs are not specifically dated or tied to a particular voyage and are therefore being offered without a more precise event attribution.

• Identified ship: USS Clermont (APA-143)

• Complete group: Six related original photographs offered together as one lot

• Strong visual content: Includes the identifiable hull-number view, massed troops aboard ship, landing craft and detailed shipboard scenes

• Collector appeal: Relevant to WWII U.S. Navy, amphibious warfare, attack transport, Pacific Theater and naval photography collections

• Condition: Vintage photographs show normal age and handling wear, including light edge/corner wear, minor surface marks and occasional toning or staining. Backs are largely blank.

These photographs have been kept together as a single related group so that the identifying hull-number image preserves the historical context of the other five photographs. No attempt has been made to attribute the men shown to a specific battalion, Marine unit, voyage or occupation movement without documentary confirmation.
