Three titanium relics recovered from the crashsite of SR-71 No. 61-7970 Lot 1155 For Sale

Offered is a nice collection of SR-71 Titanium relics recovered from the desert crashsite of Black Bird No. 61-7970. The three items in this lot are hull related. The item at the top is a seam which contains an interesting series of rivets and a production stand. Bottom right is a heavier piece of the sub-hull hull. The final relic is an interesting exterior hull relic containing the Black Paont of the SR-71 Program.When 970 smashed into the desert near the Heco Mountains it created a fireball and mushroom cloud which could be seen from 20 miles away. The relics would be a beautiful addition to any SR-71 collection and display well together. Artifacts of this quality are becoming more difficult to find at affordable prices. A self generated Letter of Provenance will be included with purchase On June 17, 1970, an SR-71A Blackbird crashed into the West Texas desert 20 miles East of El Paso, Texas. The SR-71A spy plane, No.61-7970, was being refueled from a KC-135Q tanker, No. 59-1474. During fuel transfer, the Blackbird pitched up into the underbelly of the tanker tearing open the pilot’s compartment and destroying flight controls. The crew of No. 970, Lt. Col. Buddy Brown and Major Mortimer Jarvis, safely ejected from their damaged aircraft and were rescued by helicopters dispatched from Biggs AFB located in El Paso, Texas.
