A rare and visually balancedset of three 19th-century European stoneware gin (jenever) bottles, each embossed with its original distiller’s mark. These bottles were used for exporting Dutch and German genever—the precursor to modern gin—and showcase the intertwined distilling histories ofSchiedam, Hollandand theDuchy of Nassau, Germany.

1) Blankenheym & Nolet – Schiedam (Largest, approx. 12¼” H × 3½” dia)
Embossed with the circularBlankenheym & Noletkey seal and“SCHIEDAM.”
Produced in Schiedam, Holland—the gin capital of the 19th century.
The Nolet distillery remains active today, best known forKetel One Vodka.
2) Herzogthum Nassau – German Lion Seal (Middle, approx. 11½” H × 3½” dia)
Embossed“HERZOGTHUM NASSAU”with a crownedlion-and-shield seal, and stamped“HS Num. 28”(likely a potter’s or mold mark).
Originating from theDuchy of Nassau(Germany),mid–late 19th century, prior to its annexation into Prussia in 1866.
Scarcer than the Dutch Schiedam bottles and prized for its distinctive heraldic seal and light buff clay body.
3) Blankenheym – Zeer Oude Genever (Smallest, approx. 9¾” H × 2¾” dia)
Embossed“BLANKENHEYM ZEER OUDE GENEVER”with a crown emblem.
“Zeer Oude” translates to“Very Old Genever”, referring to a premium aged spirit.
Thishalf-size bottleis the rarest format of the three, made for finer quality blends.
Condition
All three bottles showtypical wear for 19th-century stoneware, including minor glaze flakes, firing marks, and light surface wear. No major cracks or repairs noted. The embossed details remain well-defined.
Excellent for display—the color contrast and height variation create a perfect primitive or barware vignette.
