I am a professional blade and vintage tool restorer.

I do my best to find quality pre-owned products and give them a new life.

OTTER-Messer was founded around 1840 in Solingen,Germany, by the Berns brothers in a traditional water-poweredgrinding mill known as a Kotten at theKönigsmühle. The brand’s name and logo are derived from the indigenousotters that inhabited the streams and rivers of the Bergisches Land regionnear the factory.

Since its inception, the company has maintained a commitmentto meticulous handcraftsmanship, with each knife being ground, sharpened, and polished by hand. The firm experienced a leadership transitionin 2011 when Frank Rommel took over, steering thetraditional manufactory into a modern era while preserving its historicproduction methods and reputation for durable, high-quality German steel.

The brand gained significant international recognitionthrough its Mercator knife series, originally designed in 1867 byHeinrich Kaufmann & Sons. After World War II, American GIsbrought these knives to the United States, where they achieved cult status andwidespread popularity. Today, OTTER-Messer continues to produce awide range of pocket knives, fixed blades, and specialized tools entirely inSolingen, blending over 180 years of tradition with contemporary design needs.

MY RESTORATION PROCESS: I polish the steel and do my best to remove scratches, rust, pits, and chips. Next, I sharpen using a series of DMT Diamond Plates, then 8000 grit Japanese water stones, and go on to finish with beaver leather strops. I then wipe clean with food-safe mineral spirits. The item you receive will slice newspaper (see video). I\'ll carefully package to prevent damage during shipping.
