Rare Antique Matthias Girmscheid 1.5-Liter German Beer Stein (Mold #1247):
$149.00

Up for sale is a magnificent, highly collectible 1.5-Liter antique German stoneware beer stein produced by the renowned Westerwald pottery studio of Matthias Girmscheid (operating between 1884 and 1928).This historic vessel features Mold/Catalog Number 1247 stamped clearly on the base. The main body showcases a beautifully detailed, crisp relief scene titled "Beim Kartenspiel" (The Card Game), depicting a lively group of friends gathered around a tavern table playing cards. What makes this specific piece incredibly rare and unique for collectors is the text inscription wrapping around the borders. Hand-carved into the original production mold by the artisan, the German drinking motto contains fascinating historical misspellings and shorthand variants:

Inscription as Stamped: "SICH FROHE HEREN BEI TRINKIN SPIELEN SCHERZEN TREFEN"
Intended High German: "Bei Trinken, Spielen, Scherzen, treffen sich frohe Herzen."
English Translation: "With drinking, playing, and joking, joyful hearts meet."
