Authentic Antique Houzex \"Ear of Corn\" Pink Uranium Glass Boudoir LampUp for sale/sale is an incredibly scarce, authentic antique Houzex \"Ear of Corn\" (also historically known as the Harrisburg pattern) parlor or boudoir lamp. This stunning piece features a gorgeous daytime opaque mauve/dusty rose pink milk glass body and base that fluoresces a brilliant, vibrant neon green under a UV blacklight. While uranium glass pieces TYPICALLY have the clear glass makeup you see most commonly online, did you know in the 20s and 30s; they also make opaque uranium glass as well?Let me introduce you to one of the more rare opaque uranium glass pieces! To achieve the dense, milky daytime mauve or deep dusty rose color, glassmakers added opacifiers along with mineral colorants like selenium or manganese to the molten pot. The vivid green fluorescence under a 395nm blacklight occurs because they also introduced 0.1% to 2% uranium oxide by weight directly into that opaque pink recipe. Because the uranium chemically bonds at a molecular level as uranyl ions, the intense green glow is locked into the structure permanently and will never fade, degrade, or wear away over time. So yes, I can understand why you may this it is magnesium because it was very uncommon to see uranium in colored glass, but I can assure you this is 100% a uranium glass lamp. The Houze Convex Glass Company (Houzex) explicitly formulated uranium into their opaque art glass color lines—including their green, custard, and specialty pink slag glass boudoir sets—during the late 1920s and 1930s.
If you didn’t know before, now you do 🙂 fun fact of the day!
