Rare Antique E.M.F. Co., Detroit Veteran Motor Car Spanner/Wrench. 1909 to 1912

A rare,genuine antique spanner/wrench manufactured by the early American automobile manufacturer,E.M.F. Company, Detroit, for use with their (veteran) cars. Dating from between1909 and 1912.

E.M.F. partcode, “A-1312”. One jaw has been stamped with 3 dots by a previous owner foridentification purposes.

Approx. jawsizes: 15mm (0.59 inches) & 13mm (0.51 inches). Length: 126.5mm (5 inches).

Fair/good usedcondition (some minor wear and tear commensurate with age and purpose).

The E-M-FCompany was an early American automobile manufacturer that produced automobilesfrom 1909 to 1912. The name E-M-F was gleaned from the initials of the threecompany founders: Barney Everitt (a custom auto-body builder from Detroit),William Metzger (formerly of Cadillac), and Walter Flanders (who had served asHenry Ford\'s production manager).

In 1909, E-M-Fbought the Detroit plant of the De Luxe company and began production ofE-M-F cars. E-M-F produced several models of its own design and contracted tosell them through Studebaker wagon dealerships.

Late in 1909,E-M-F established a Walkerville, Ontario, branch plant to produce the E-M-F 30and Flanders 20. E-M-F had a third plant in Port Huron, which was sold to theHavers Motor Car Company in 1912.

Shortlyafterwards, E-M-F was bought out by Studebaker, which formed Studebaker Canada,and rebadged E-M-F\'s products: the E-M-F as the Studebaker 30 and the Flandersas the Studebaker 20. Sales of these rebadged models continued through the endof 1912.
