An extraordinarily rare and exceptionally well-preserved 1920s–1930s solid cast iron figural doorstop depicting a formal Ship's Bridge Captain / Maritime Commander. While the vast majority of surviving period maritime doorstops depict working deck hands or yellow-slicker "Cape Cod" fishermen, this scarcer Bridge Officer mold features refined uniform details, including a double-breasted reaver coat, white dress trousers, officer sleeve braid rank rings, and a gold anchor crest on his peaked visor cap.

Condition Report
Appears to be in original, untouched condition with exceptional paint retention. The dark blue double-breasted pea coat retains over 90–95% of its glossy paint finish, complemented by original off-white paint on the dress trousers and cap crown. High-relief facial features show honest micro-flaking and natural paint loss exposing a smooth, oxidized iron patina beneath. The underside of the base shows an unpolished, authentic flat-ground casting texture with minor surface oxidation. Zero repairs, touch-ups, repaints, or modern alterations—left completely intact to preserve full historical and collector value.
Authenticity Assessment
Visual inspection confirms multiple widely accepted authenticity markers for early 20th-century American figural ironmongery:
Uniform Relief & Mold Precision: The casting exhibits sharp, crisp relief lines, completely devoid of the blurry details or heavy "orange peel" pitting found on modern reproductions.
Cold-Paint Aging & Oxidation: The paint layers show characteristic micro-flaking and genuine dark oxidation inside paint-loss voids.
Metallurgy & Density: Weighing 3 lbs 2.6 oz at a compact 6.5" height, the piece displays the high iron density typical of pre-WWII American foundries.
Base & Seams: The bottom surface exhibits a hand-ground, flat profile with hand-buffed mold seams running along the sides, consistent with Hubley and Littco foundry finishing methods.
