Up for sale is a breathtakingly rare piece of luxury history: an authentic pair of antique Cartier Paris opera glasses (theatre binoculars) dating from the early 20th Century (Belle Époque / Art Deco era).
This exquisite set is crafted from brilliant gilt brass with a glossy black enamel/lacquer finish on the barrels. The internal barrel is sharply and clearly engraved with the historical "CARTIER" signature.
Included is the ultra-rare, original custom-fit black leather travel case. The interior lid features vibrant red silk and velvet lining, beautifully stamped in genuine gold leaf with the antique Cartier crest and historical boutique locations: "CARTIER - NEW YORK: 653 5th AVENUE / PARIS: 13 RUE DE LA PAIX / LONDON: 175 NEW BOND ST."
CONDITION DETAILS:
- Cosmetics: Excellent antique condition. The gilt brass retains a beautiful, rich luster with only light, age-appropriate surface patina. The black enamel/lacquer sections are smooth with minor handling wear.
- Optics: Lenses are physically intact with no chips, cracks, or deep scratches. The optics show typical 100-year internal dust and antique haze, so they will require a professional cleaning or service for optimal clarity.
- Case: The original leather case is intact and fully functional. The internal gold stamping remains incredibly bright and legible. The exterior shows minor rubbing and surface wear consistent with an antique travel piece.
