$24.95

[DIMENSIONS]: 5\" x 7.5\"Up for sale is a rare, original vintage 1898 Western Union Telegraph Company telegram (Form No. 1) rich in American industrial and military-adjacent history.
HISTORICAL HEADER SIGNIFICANCE — ABRAHAM LINCOLN CONFIDANT:The official corporate header proudly displays the name of Western Union President and General Manager THOS. T. ECKERT. Thomas T. Eckert is a nationally famous Civil War figure who served as the Chief of the U.S. Military Telegraph Corps for the Union Army. Working directly with Secretary of War Edwin Stanton, Eckert was a deeply trusted confidant of President Abraham Lincoln, who spent countless hours with Eckert in the War Department telegraph office awaiting battlefield dispatches. Following the war, Eckert rose to become a massive Gilded Age telecom tycoon heading Western Union.
FAMOUS MUSICAL PROVENANCE:Received at 11:46 AM on March 1, 1898, this telegram is addressed directly to the iconic SAMUEL PIERCE O. P. CO. (Samuel Pierce Organ Pipe Company) in Reading, Massachusetts. Founded in 1847, Samuel Pierce\'s firm was globally celebrated as the premier independent builder of wood and metal organ pipes in America, supplying components for the grandest instruments of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The telegram was sent from West Boylston, Mass., by regional contractor/buyer Geo. N. Reed, and captures a fantastic snapshot of late-1800s business logistics, reading with urgent phrasing: \"Where are pipes ordered. Send at once.\"
Rarity Notes: Original 1890s traveled telegrams are scarce, as the thin yellow paper sheets were almost universally discarded once read. Finding an intact specimen connecting the corporate era of Lincoln\'s telegraph chief to America\'s most famous organ pipe manufacturer makes this an elite, multi-collectible crossover item.
Condition: Complete original single-sheet telegram document on classic yellowed paper stock. The handwriting and corporate typography remain dark, distinct, and highly legible. Displays expected light edge wear, minor handling wrinkles, and original soft folding creases consistent with a genuine 125+ year old piece. Reverse side is blank. Please review the high-resolution scans closely to evaluate precise condition details. Sold as-is.
