Here on consignment from one of the convents we work withis an antique bronze medal minted at the Vatican in the 17th century with thetouch mark "AH" for Alberto Hamerani (1620-1677).
This medal depicts:
SAINT FRANCIS BORGIA (1510-1572)
SAINT CAJETAN (1480-1547)
SAINT LOUIS BERTRAND (1526-1581)
SAINT PHILIP BENIZI DE DAMIANI (1233-1285)
SAINT ROSE OF LIMA (1586-1617).
These Saints were each canonized together by Pope ClementX in 1670. The medal is 1.5 inches tall (including bale) and it weighs 21grams. It is well worn after years of prayer and meditation behind convent walls.This medals dating can be confirmed on pages 2 & 3 of the book ANINTRODUCTION TO RELIGIOUS MEDALS, by Bob Forrest, and published numismaticINTERNATIONAL in 2004.In addition this book has chapters (outlined in the tableof contents), describing each of the categories of medals, their possible placeof pilgrimage (acquisition), and origin of the mint where they were made. Werecommend that anyone serious about collecting medals from this period acquiresa copy of this book.
