RARE ART DECO COBALT DUMBBELL COCKTAIL SHAKER BY WV SPECIALTY GLASS CO. 1937 For Sale

So very few of these beautiful blown glass dumbbell-shaped cocktail shakers have survived over the years. Of all the available colors (ruby, pink, amber, yellow, clear, frosted white, and green) this rich, cobalt blue has always been my favorite – very Art Deco.
This exact dumbbell cocktail shaker is prominently displayed on page 154 in Stephen Visakay\'s Vintage Bar Ware and on page 25 in Walter T. Lemiski\'s Glass Barware: Deco & Beyond (an amber dumbbell).
This shaker has been in my personal collection since 1986 and has been very well cared for. It is in excellent condition for its nearly 90 years of age. The glass is in mint condition. I had as many as five of these at one time in my collection and all of them suffered from the same issue: the thinner chromium components have not stood the test of time. The push-on cap has several splits, but remains structurally sound. It\'s hardly noticeable when displayed.
Made in the mid-to-late 1930s, this cocktail shaker was made by the West Virginia Specialty Glass Company (1929-1987) of Weston, WV. It stands about 13\" tall and is 4\" in diameter. This likely isn\'t the only cobalt dumbbell cocktail shaker currently available, but I doubt any are in the excellent condition this one exhibits.
While not the stand that originally came with these dumbbells (good luck finding the original, I\'ve never seen one in my 40-plus years of collecting), I have found a substitute that works very well for safely displaying the shaker vertically. I have included this stand with the shaker as a bonus.
