Vintage Providence Rhode Island New Post Office Postcard

Let us take a look at the New Post Office in Providence Rhode Island back in the early nineteen hundreds. Back then the federal government really wanted you to know they meant business when handling your mail. They built this thing to look like an impenetrable Roman temple complete with massive stone columns and tall arched windows just so citizens would feel absolutely confident buying a one cent stamp. It is a fantastic example of classic federal architecture that completely dominates the entire block.

This German printed lithograph is well over a century old and it has survived the decades remarkably well. You will notice some soft rounded corners and a bit of minor edge wear along the borders from sitting in a collection. The back is completely unposted and shockingly clean for its age. Take a good long look at the high resolution photos to see exactly what you are getting before you decide to add it to your collection.

As an authentic vintage piece, this item may show typical signs of age, which can include minor edge wear, soft or bumped corners, slight yellowing, and light surface blemishes. Please carefully examine all provided high resolution photos for the most accurate and definitive representation of the item\'s condition prior to purchasing. Trivia Corner

If you look closely at the architecture of the ground floor you will notice the heavily textured horizontal grooves cut into the stone. This rusticated masonry style was intentionally used by architects during this era to make the base of the building look visually heavier and completely immovable, like a natural cliff face supporting the smooth elegant columns above it.
