Postcard Dating Guide
Earliest postmark indicates the absolute latest year a postcard was made.
Design Eras (via Smithsonian Institute):

• Divided Back Period: 1907-1915 - picture on front, one half of back dedicated to address only and one half for private message.
• White Border Period: 1915-1930 - picture on front surrounded by a white border, divided back
• Linen Period: 1930-1945 - material has a linen like texture on front with usually a divided back, linen continued into the 1950s
• Photochrome Period: 1945-Present - typical postcards of today with color, glossy fronts with a smooth feel that resemble photographs

Serial Numbers
There are dating guides for a few of the major postcard manufacturers that date serial numbers on the postcards to manufacturing dates.Postcard Shipping Information
