Original WWII Imperial Japanese Naval Officer's M-1883 Dirk Dagger 16.5" Long.
Original WWII Imperial Japanese Naval Officer's Dirk Dagger, as authorized in 1883 (Meiji 16) this model of dagger remained in use through the end of World War II. The blade is a single edge with curved tip. The blade length is 8 1/4" from the tip to the habaki. The dagger length is 13 3/8" from the blade tip to the end of the hilt. Total length of the housed dagger and scabbard is 16 1/2". There is no maker's mark on the tsuba. The dagger and scabbard are decorated with gilded brass fittings and 5-petal cherry blossoms. The hilt is wrapped in white ray skin with large scales. The ray skin is secured with double strands of gilt brass wire.
