This vintage chrome-era postcard features the Orient Point Lighthouse, located at the eastern tip of Long Island\'s North Fork in Orient, New York. The photograph captures the distinctive cast-iron caisson lighthouse rising from a rocky shoal surrounded by open water — a classic \'sparkplug\' style structure that has guided mariners through Plum Gut since 1899. Technical details printed on the reverse identify the light as Fixed Red with a fog signal horn giving a diaphragm group of three blasts every 30 seconds, at coordinates Lat. 41-09.8, Long. 72-13.4. The Kodachrome photograph is credited to Louis Dormand, who also published the card through his Riverhead, Long Island operation. The card is a divided-back chrome postcard numbered 5653, published by Louis Dormand of Riverhead, Long Island. It was postmarked August 1, 1954 from Greenport, NY, with a 2-cent John Adams stamp affixed. The recipient was Mr. & Mrs. H. Reck at 5008 211th St., Bayside, Long Island, NY. The sender, Roger, penned the charming note: \'Hi Harry — This beats working for a living. Regards, Roger.\' Condition is Very Good. The front shows some light surface scratches and minor creasing, particularly in the upper left quadrant, consistent with age and handling. Colors remain vibrant and the image is sharp. Corners show light wear. The reverse is clean and legible with no damage to the address or printed text. Orient Point Lighthouse is a beloved collector subject among Long Island and lighthouse enthusiasts alike.
