ABOUT THIS SANTA
The hollow tree on the back is the scene the artist spends the most time on. A stone fireplace glows under a mantel with four candles and striped stockings, and two gnomes sit on stools while one plays a little harp. Around it, more gnomes haul a sled of white bundles through the drifts, with an owl, a squirrel and a deer for company. The whole night is painted onto a curved, carved surface. A red and gold Celtic knot band runs down the front edges and around the hem. Holly sprigs are painted through his white beard. Down the front, a carved fawn, a bear and a cub, a fox and two hares fill the opening of his robe. Together, the carving and painting take days of work. He stands 14 inches tall on a bookcase, a hall table or a sideboard, and the underside of the base reads Yule. A Christmas gift for family and friends who love a cozy winter scene.
