Navy Sailors With Hands Tied Playing Halloween Apple Bobbing Real Photo Postcard For Sale

This lively real photo postcards from the 1910s captures sailors participating in apple bobbing, aboard a U.S. Navy warship. Several sailors are on their knees with hands tied, attempting to complete a task while a large crowd of their shipmates cheers them on. Often played on Halloween or during line-crossing ceremonies, these games were a vital part of maintaining morale during long sea voyages. This is a rare and candid glimpse into recreation in the "Old Navy."

Front of PostcardThe photograph shows a game in progress on the deck of a naval vessel, surrounded by a crowd of sailors. In a cleared space on a canvas tarp, several sailors are on their knees with their hands bound behind their backs. They are competing in a deck game, likely a contest related to apple bobbing where players must catch an apple with their teeth from a basin of water. Officers and enlisted men watch the event with great interest.
