Harry S. Truman(May 8, 1884– December 26, 1972) was the 33rdpresident of the United States, serving from 1945 to 1953. Serving asvice presidentin 1945, he assumed the presidency upon the death ofFranklin D. Roosevelt. Truman implemented theMarshall Planin the wake ofWorld War IIto rebuild the economy of Western Europe and established both theTruman DoctrineandNATOto contain the expansion ofSoviet communism. A member of the Democratic Party, he proposed numerousnew deal coalitionliberal domestic reforms, but few were enacted by theconservative coalitionthat dominatedCongress.

Truman was raised inIndependence, Missouri, and duringWorld War Ifought in France as a captain in the Field Artillery. Returning home, he opened ahaberdasheryinKansas City, Missouri, and was elected as a judge ofJackson Countyin 1922. Truman was elected to the United States Senate from Missouri in 1934. Between 1940 and 1944, he gained national prominence as chairman of theTruman Committee, which was aimed at reducing waste and inefficiency in wartime contracts.

Truman was elected vice president in the1944 presidential electionand became president upon Roosevelt\'s death in April 1945. Only then was he told about the ongoingManhattan Projectand theatomic bomb. Truman authorized thefirst and only use of nuclear weapons in waragainst the Japanese cities ofHiroshimaandNagasaki.Truman\'s administrationengaged in aninternationalistforeign policy byworking closely with Britain. Truman staunchly denouncedisolationism. He energized theNew Deal coalitionduring the1948 presidential election, despite adivided Democratic Party, and won a surprise victory againstRepublican PartynomineeThomas E. Deweythat secured his own presidential term.

Truman presided over the onset of theCold Warin 1947. He oversaw theBerlin Airliftand Marshall Plan in 1948. With the involvement of the US in theKorean Warof 1950–1953,South Korearepelled the invasion byNorth Korea. Domestically, the postwar economic challenges such as strikes and inflation created a mixed reaction over the effectiveness of his administration. In 1948, he proposed Congress pass comprehensive civil rights legislation. Congress refused, so Truman issued Executive Order 9980 andExecutive Order 9981, which prohibited discrimination in federal agencies and desegregated theU.S. Armed Forces.

Investigations revealedcorruptionin parts of the Truman administration, and this became a major campaign issue in the1952 presidential election, although they did not implicate Truman himself. He was eligible for reelection in 1952 but, with poor polling, he chose not to run. Truman went into a retirement marked by the founding ofhis presidential libraryand the publication of his memoirs. It was long thought that his retirement years were financially difficult for Truman, resulting in Congress establishing a pension for former presidents, but evidence eventually emerged that he amassed considerable wealth, some of it while still president. When he left office, Truman\'s administration was heavily criticized. Despite this controversy, scholarsrankTruman in the first quartile of U.S. presidents. In addition, critical reassessment of his presidency has improved his reputation among historians and the general population.[1]

Payment details: Typically, I ship paypal payments right away. PAYPAL is recommended.International shipping will be higher as all international orders go through the Global Shipping program. How I obtained my autographs, and why I promise a FULL MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE: As a kid, from roughly the years 1965 to 1973, and later from 1974-the present, I have amassed an enormous collection of autographed sports and celebrity memorabilia. In most cases, using Jack Smalling\'s baseball address lists and other assorted address lists, I wrote to both active and retired baseball players, sending them letters, requests for signatures, and self-addressed-stamped envelopes. This is how I obtained thousands of autographs. I also obtained many autographs in person at area parks and hotels. In the 1980\'s and 1990\'s, I travelled the country doing shows (20 National Conventions) and would buy quantities of autographs through player signings. I have every reason to believe that all of the autographs I\'m selling are absolutely authentic. I stand by every item I sell. Upon purchasing an item from me through , you may return that item, in the condition in which I shipped it to you, within 14 days of receipt of that item if you are not satisfied with the item. I am selling each item \"as is\", per the guarantee I\'ve promised above. All the old time autograph dealers know me and the professional authenticators will vouch for my reputation as well. I do this on a part time basis, so sometimes emails take a day. I have worked hard for my response rating. The last thing I want to do is damage my credibility, so if you have legitimate concerns about any item you win from me on , I\'ll make every effort to remedy the situation to your satisfaction. PLEASE NOTE: Most items come with certificates of authenticity from outside companies (JSA and PSA predominantly; they are the best). I have spent lots of money with third party authenticators and have had very few come back without passing. Sincerely, Joe Binder , Downers Grove, Illinois
