This is an authentic WWII Naval Recognition Model produced by H.A. Framburg & Co., Chicago, dated 12‑44 on the underside plate. Framburg was one of the official U.S. Navy contractors that manufactured cast‑metal waterline ship models for wartime identification training. These models were used by pilots, gunners, and naval personnel to learn ship silhouettes quickly and accurately during World War II.
This example represents the U.S. Porter‑Class Destroyer (DD), a scarce destroyer‑leader type built in the 1930s and used extensively in early‑war and pre‑war training. Porter‑class models appear far less frequently than Fletcher, Benson, or Gleaves destroyers, making them highly desirable to collectors completing full recognition sets.
The model retains its original gray naval finish and the correct metal underside plate showing:“US Porter Class DD • 12‑44 • H.A. Framburg Chicago.”It displays well with normal vintage wear consistent with wartime production and training use.
