Ancient Roman Coin: The Dynasty of ConstantineCirculated Ancient Bronze Coin from the 4th Century
Struck Between307 - 363 AD
Constantine the Great became emperor of Rome after seeing a vision and having Christ appear in a dream the night before battle. He was told \"By this symbol you will conquer\". Constantine had his soldiers shields painted with that \"chi-rho\" symbol ( the first two Greek letters in Christ superimposed). His soldiers would crush the forces of his rival Maxentius, and Constantine would go on to become sole Roman emperor. He would legalize Christianity and end the persecution of Christians enacted by his predecessors. He would also found Constantinople (modern day Istanbul) that would become the capitol of the Eastern Roman Empire.
With the death of Constantine the Great in 337 AD, control of the Roman Empire would pass to his surviving sons: Constans, Constantine II and Constantius - The coin you receive will have been struck during the reign of Constantine the Great or one of his sons.
