Great vintage postcard!
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
- Type: Antique early 20th-century color printed lithograph postcard produced on a standard matte cardstock base.
- Publisher & Photographer: American publisher unknown. Bears a small green-ink catalog stock production number \"A-16545\" in the lower-left center of the reverse face. The color plates feature a vivid hand-colored aesthetic common to early German-contracted presswork runs for the American souvenir market.
- Subject Matter: A historic residential streetscape perspective view titled \"Main Street, looking West from Walnut Street, Binghamton, N. Y.\" in white cursive script along the lower margin. The composition documents the affluent, tree-lined residential neighborhoods of Broome County during the Edwardian era, highlighting grand multi-story Victorian residential homes with deep wrap-around porches, highly ornate architectural trim, decorative gables, a prominent octagonal corner tower turret building, and detailed low picket yard fencing. The unpaved dirt roadway on the right features embedded trolley streetcar rails, shaded by massive mature shade trees.
- Postal History: Divided back configuration carrying a green 1-cent Benjamin Franklin US postage stamp. Postmarked via a circular town hub cancellation stamp from Binghamton, New York on June 3, 1912 (June 3 1912). Carries an extensive, beautifully written ink travel correspondence message from a sender identifying as \"Emily\" addressed to Miss May Turrell at 517 Chicago St, St. John\'s, Oregon, USA, acknowledging a previous postcard gift, asking about a mutual friend named Gertrude, and commenting on the beautiful summer weather.
- Historical Interest: Outstanding primary source document capturing early 20th-century American domestic architecture and neighborhood development in Upstate New York.
CONDITION:
Postally used with a 1912 New York town postmark stamp. Displays clean vintage character with very minor uniform rubbing at the extreme corner points, remarkably straight borders, and a clean reverse address field free of heavy smudging or surface creases. The front face shows a strong red ink saturation on the central tree trunk and neighboring brick house facades resulting from early multi-stone lithographic alignment trends. My postcards are in good or better condition and are standard sized (3.5\"x 5.5\") unless noted. Please examine the enlarged images provided to determine condition, and feel free to ask questions.
