The dedication to Princess Luisa—a lady-in-waiting to the Queen—was a move to reinforce bonds between the Fascist regime and the traditional Italian nobility. The Roman numeral "XI" denotes the 11th year of the Era Fascista.
The photo was signed 11 days before the historic "Air Armada" transatlantic flight which projected Italy as a modern technological power.
